Spring Season Update - 1 Week from Competition

Pack Nine News - The Official Newsletter of Nevada Men's Golf

Nevada Men’s Golf Supporters,

We’ve battled the elements the last week or so, and have been working to get in as many rounds of Q-School as weather permits before we head to the desert next weekend. We will send out a link with live scoring prior to the event.

Our spring schedule features great golf courses and even better competition. We will challenge ourselves against some of the best programs in the country as we prepare for a Mountain West Championship in April. We also host our first NCAA Regional at Montrêux in May and will pass along volunteer opportunities later this spring.

From L-R: Jonathan Kim (Soph.), Oak Seelanagae (Jr.), Aaron Leach (Soph.)

Our top 3 performers pictured above from the fall were Jonathan Kim with a scoring average of 71.9, Oak Seelanagae at 71.9, and Aaron Leach leading the team at 71.8. The 4th and 5th scores will be key for us to have a successful spring slate.

Guys have been putting in a lot of work in the weight room since we returned from winter break and continue to build on progress made after the fall season. Golf as a sport is as physically demanding as it’s ever been and we have put a bigger emphasis on nutrition in addition to the strength & conditioning this winter.

Current standings for Prestige Q-School are below. The top 3 finishers will earn automatic exemptions into the event. Our final round will be played at the Norman Course at PGA West on Friday, February 14.

Join us in wishing a Happy Birthday to Jonathan Kim this week!

Any gift made directly to our program immediately enhances the experience for our student-athletes. We are currently focusing our fundraising efforts on the following:

Travel Additional Players or Support Staff - $1,000-2,500 (each occurrence)

A lot of tournaments allow us to bring more than just the top 5 players who count towards the team score. Every opportunity we get to travel additional players is crucial for their development.

We are also working to expand coverage of the team while at home and at tournaments, and will be looking to travel additional staff to increase the amount of quality content we can pass along to you all.

Lie/Loft Machine - $2,500 (one-time)

With the volume of shots our guys are getting in each week (especially when off mats), lies and lofts can quickly change on irons. We are looking to put a lie/loft machine in the office so we can handle checking and adjusting clubs regularly in-house.

Supplemental Nutrition - $5,000 (per semester)

Current rules allow us to feed the team with few restrictions. A lot of guys are currently working on gaining mass in an effort to increase strength and clubhead speed. We have set up a program to be able to assist them with groceries and additional meals, and will allocate funds to them as we raise them.

If you would like to make a gift to support these initiatives, please use the link below.
